Home Style Egg Fried Rice: China/Canada
This fried rice is special to me because it’s a recipe that my mother created according to our taste. Since my siblings and I were born in Canada and my parents have been living here for over 15 years, we adapted to Canadian culture. My parents still eat traditional dishes occasionally but it was because of us that they had to change their ways of eating. A traditional meal for Chinese people must have a bowl of rice and a few small strong flavoured dishes to go with the rice. Of course some of my parents’ Chinese culture has been passed on to us which is how my mother came up with this fried rice. It’s a combination of both cultures because some of its ingredients are from China and others from here. We eat this fried rice very often because it’s easy to make and fast. It’s very convenient because it contains vegetables, meat and rice mixed together so it’s very balanced and this mix is. It’s a dish which we all share together; we get the opportunity to eat together and it means a lot to me. It’s very similar to the egg fried rice they have in China with a little change from my mother.
THE RECIPE
· Ingredients
§ ½ Onion
§ 3 Cups of Rice
§ 2 Eggs
§ 1 Stick of Green Onion
§ A teaspoon of Salt
§ A teaspoon of sugar
§ A spoonful of Soya Sauce
§ A spoonful of Oyster sauce
§ A spoonful of Cooking Oil
§ Half cup of Ham
§ Half cup of Chicken breast
- Procedure
1. Cook the rice and, while cooking, cut the vegetable and meat into little pieces.
2. When the rice is ready take it out, let it cool a bit, beat the eggs and heat the pan.
3. When the pan is hot enough put a spoonful of cooking oil on it.
4. Afterward, put the meat and onion to cook. Since meat takes longer to cook and onion makes it have a little taste.
5. Cook the eggs and rice together until the eggs are cooked and mix well.
6. Put the salt, sugar, soya sauce and oyster sauce in the pan one at a time while mixing everything.
7. When everything it’s practically done, add the green onion.
Servings for 4-5.
That’s how you make our Home style Egg fried rice.
